Decoding the Drink: What Your Glass Says About You
Ever wondered how you come across sporting that glass of cosmo when you’re at a bar? Or what that glass of appletini means when it’s in your hand? Skip the numerology and zero in on the glass (or bottle) to see how people are expressing themselves with the booze that they choose.
Red Wine
People who like red wine are usually traditional, most are sophisticated, but some are not. Mature, discerning and with a clear appreciation of what they like (especially with red wine), the red wine drinker has an experienced palate and cares as much about their food as they do about what they’re drinking.
White Wine
Fruity and light, white wine drinkers are usually reserved for those who don’t want to drink too much. The white wine drinker is carefree, not much of a show-off, and doesn’t care too much about how they drink as compared to what they are drinking.
Vodka
Old school, experienced drinkers who love vodka like being in charge. Independent, opinionated people who need to unwind (and let loose) with a glass, vodka is also the drink of choice of frat boys and bachelorettes who like to mix this liquid with Red Bull to help them last until the wee hours of the morning. The more serious drinkers drink it straight-up.
Tequila
People who love tequila are real party animals or are looking for a party. They are the extroverts and are almost always gregarious and enthusiastic about life. Optimistic, sometimes irresponsible and always the life of any party, tequila drinkers know how to have fun. But the wise ones are those who have learned and know how to sip their tequila, which should always be 100% agave and should go down smooth and easy on the stomach.
Gin
Usually, those who are unsure about anything alcoholic gravitate to gin for comfort and security. Gin is also the alcohol of choice for lightweights who want to add some juice with their gin (and “sip on their gin and juice,” as Snoop Dogg’s rap song goes).
Beer
Beer people are low maintenance and easy-going. Unpretentious, confident yet spontaneous and experimental, those who love brews are always likely to have the most fun in the room. Experienced beer drinkers know that “beer before liquor, never been sicker; liquor before beer, you’re in the clear.”
Cosmopolitan
Cosmo girls watch Sex and The City reruns and are usually high-maintenance sophisticates. With this drink in hand, you’re either a girly-girl or gay.
Margarita
Fun and adventurous, margarita fans just may be living vicariously through the drink. Margaritas are the outdoor party drink of choice and practically a staple on the beach.
Scotch or Whiskey
Rough on the edges, a single malt scotch whisky drinker is a tough cookie and is often secretly admired by their friends and co-workers. Men who like scotch are grounded and are more cautious about their pursuits. Female scotch drinkers don’t care much about what you think of them and are self-confident, intelligent and more discerning than their cosmo-toting friends. This drink is the preferred nightcap of all discerning urbanites.
Champagne
Romantic, dreamy and optimistic, champagne drinkers are also posh, classy and rarely reserved. The ladies are distinguished from the girls as they’re the ones who end the night still intact and elegant. Men usually only gravitate to champagne during festive occasions, and no doubt, champagne is the drink of choice for those celebrating a holiday or a special engagement.
Decoding drinks isn’t an exact science but bartenders have been known to get a kick out of linking personalities to people’s choice of drinks. Next time you order your drink, you may want to think about what that glass says about you.
